Metsä Fibre Oy was founded in 1973. Metsä Fibre is a subsidiary of Metsä Group. Metsä Group manufactures first-class bleached Botnia pulp grades at four mills in Finland. The combined production capacity of our mills in Joutseno, Kemi, Rauma and Äänekoski is 2.4 million tonnes. The Svir Timber sawmill in Russia is also a wholly-owned subsidiary Metsä-Fibre Oy.
Our pulps – both softwood and hardwood – are ideally suited for manufacturing high-quality printing and writing papers, boards, speciality and tissue papers. Learn more about pulp grades and end-uses by consulting our Pulp navigator.
We are an established fibre partner in Europe, and we are rapidly becoming a dedicated supplier of fibre and expertise to the expanding markets of the Far East.
Strong in market pulp
Metsä Fibre is one of the world’s principal suppliers of market pulp. We are the market pulp agent for M-real, UPM and Cenibra. We sell market pulp from ten mills in Europe and South America, and our sales portfolio includes more than twenty pulp grades.
We recognise that the success of our customers depends on a steady supply of pulp and consistency of fibre. We also provide technical customer service with pre-eminent fibre expertise and global support services, including logistics and warehousing through our long-term partners.
Sustainable operations
Metsä Fibre strives for optimal application of technologies, processes and operating policies that minimise environmental loading. The wood used in our pulp manufacturing is a renewable raw material sourced from certified forests. Nearly half of its energy content is eventually extracted as biofuel. Not a single splinter of wood used by Metsä Fibre pulp plants is wasted. Instead, wood is converted into refined by-products and energy – heat, electricity and steam. Our pulp mills are modern bio refineries which produce more energy than they use.
The low emission levels and energy-efficiency of Metsä Fibre mills allow us to supply products that enable our customers to satisfy the strict criteria of international environmental labels such as the EU Eco label and the Nordic Swan for their own products.
