Softwood pulp

Values guide Metsä Group's operations
Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft Pulp (NBSK) is commonly used in the production of most paper, paperboard and tissue products. Softwood pulp brings strength to the end product, as well as runnability and excellent dewatering properties to the production process.

Our softwood pulp is used to make our Metsä Pine and Metsä Strong products. Metsä produces high-quality softwood pulp at its pulp mills in Äänekoski, Kemi, Joutseno, Rauma and Husum.

The softwood pulp consists of high-quality Nordic pine (pinus silvestris) and spruce (picea abies) sustainably sourced and felled by Metsä Forest. All of the wood raw materials are 100% traceable to their source.

Hardwood pulp

Bleached Hardwood Kraft Pulp (BHKP) is commonly used in paperboard and specialty paper, as well as coated and uncoated papers and tissue. In many applications hardwood pulp provides excellent strength and surface properties.

Our hardwood pulp is used to make our Metsä Birch products. Metsä produces high-quality hardwood pulp at its pulp mills in Äänekoski and Husum.

The hardwood pulp consists of high-quality Nordic birch (betula verrucosa, betula pendula or betula pubescens) sustainably sourced and felled by Metsä Forest. All of the wood raw materials are 100% traceable to their source.

High yield pulp (BCTMP)

Values guide Metsä Group's operations

Our Bleached Chemi-Thermo Mechanical Pulp (BCTMP) is often utilised in the production of paperboard to provide higher bulk and stiffness. In, e.g. printing papers higher brightness, bulk and smoothness can be achieved by replacing mechanical pulp with BCTMP.

Our BCTMP pulp is used to make our High Yield Bulk and High Yield Tensile products. We offer these products (in cooperation with Metsä Board). The pulp is produced at the Metsä Board Kaskinen Mill in Finland.

What gives Metsä High Yield Pulp its excellent high yield and paper technical properties, is the bleaching process that has been designed to preserve the wood’s natural lignin intact. Each Metsä High Yield pulp has been tailor-made to best suit specific end uses from coated speciality papers to board and tissue. Each pulp product consists of 60-100% hardwood, with the remaining 0-40% being of softwood.
