Based on a mathematical algorithm, Wastewater FOX is a forecasting system that Metsä Fibre began using at its Rauma mill in December. The system continually analyses the pulp mill process, and can provide an accurate indication of the anticipated source and type of wastewater discharges even before they occur.
This unique innovation enables a much more rapid response to discharges, reducing the COD (Chemical oxygen demand) load and thereby helps to cut costs. The system also supports improvements in mill processes and gives the company a competitive edge.
Wastewater FOX was launched as a pilot project at the Rauma pulp mill. The system will be deployed at the company's other mills in Joutseno, Kemi and Äänekoski during this year and next.
