We develop this expertise systematically in line with our core values and the principle of continual improvement, realising customer quality as we integrate individual know-how into the company’s structure and operating policies. Current development priorities include gaining more customer knowledge and introducing a new operating model in production.
Growth in customer knowledge means gaining a better understanding of customer processes, commercial operations and value chains so that we can help to generate more added value for the customer’s business. This is also an aim of our annual RADAR customer satisfaction survey, which provides valuable feedback for enhancing our operations.
To support continual growth in our customer knowledge, we have appointed liaison staff to communicate customer requirements and assist in developing customer-oriented solutions.

Some of our manufacturing units have now deployed the Mills of the Future operating model, which was developed by the staff of Metsä Fibre and will enable us to harness the profound expertise of our people to even greater effect. This operating model gives the staff greater influence over their own work and also enables them to take more responsibility for guiding the manufacturing process, which in turn makes the work more interesting and increases job satisfaction. It also means more consistent quality of output from the customer’s point of view.
In this edition of Echo our columnist also discusses the support that we provide for the process of coaching for leadership as part of the Mills of the Future approach.
Competence development at Metsä Fibre is a structured activity based on strategy, whereby we challenge ourselves and work continually to enhance our expertise and operating methods. Each staff member has a plan of personal development, which is reviewed every year to ensure a continuous and systematic improvement in expertise.
Continual competence development brings rewards for the customer by making Metsä Fibre a more competitive partner in terms of both individual expertise and the operating format of the company as a whole. Metsä Fibre is a pioneer in developing effective practices to ensure high production standards. This growth in expertise also reflects our fruitful partnership with you, the customer.
